๐Ÿ“ Overview

The Slug Catcher Sizing Tool estimates the required total finger length for a slug catcher to safely receive slugs of liquid from pipelines. It supports unit flexibility and provides a go/no-go check for filling fraction based on common industry codes.

๐Ÿงพ Inputs

  • Slug Volume to Handle: mยณ, bbl, L (selectable)
  • Number of Fingers: integer
  • Finger Pipe Diameter: mm, inches (selectable)
  • Allowable Filling Fraction: fraction of pipe (0โ€“1)
  • Design Code/Standard:
    • API RP 14E
    • ISO 13623
    • DNVGL-RP-F110
  • Output Length Unit: m, ft

๐Ÿงฎ Calculations

  • All values are converted to SI units for internal calculations.
  • Total finger length is calculated as: L=fracVtextslugNtimesfracpi4D2timesfL = \\frac{V_{\\text{slug}}}{N \\times \\frac{\\pi}{4} D^2 \\times f}L=fracVtextslugโ€‹Ntimesfracpi4D2timesf where
    VtextslugV_{\\text{slug}}Vtextslugโ€‹ = slug volume
    NNN = number of fingers
    DDD = finger pipe diameter
    fff = filling fraction
  • Flags โ€œAcceptableโ€ if fill fraction is โ‰ค 85%, otherwise flags for review.

๐Ÿ“ค Outputs

  • Acceptance Status: โœ… Acceptable or โš ๏ธ High fill fraction
  • Total Finger Length Required: In selected unit
  • Summary: Number of fingers, diameter, fill fraction, slug volume
