๐ Overview
The Slug Catcher Sizing Tool estimates the required total finger length for a slug catcher to safely receive slugs of liquid from pipelines. It supports unit flexibility and provides a go/no-go check for filling fraction based on common industry codes.
๐งพ Inputs
- Slug Volume to Handle: mยณ, bbl, L (selectable)
- Number of Fingers: integer
- Finger Pipe Diameter: mm, inches (selectable)
- Allowable Filling Fraction: fraction of pipe (0โ1)
- Design Code/Standard:
- API RP 14E
- ISO 13623
- DNVGL-RP-F110
- Output Length Unit: m, ft
๐งฎ Calculations
- All values are converted to SI units for internal calculations.
- Total finger length is calculated as: L=fracVtextslugNtimesfracpi4D2timesfL = \\frac{V_{\\text{slug}}}{N \\times \\frac{\\pi}{4} D^2 \\times f}L=fracVtextslugโNtimesfracpi4D2timesf where
VtextslugV_{\\text{slug}}Vtextslugโ = slug volume
NNN = number of fingers
DDD = finger pipe diameter
fff = filling fraction - Flags โAcceptableโ if fill fraction is โค 85%, otherwise flags for review.
๐ค Outputs
- Acceptance Status: โ Acceptable or โ ๏ธ High fill fraction
- Total Finger Length Required: In selected unit
- Summary: Number of fingers, diameter, fill fraction, slug volume
